B: Big Bend National Park is the fourteenth largest park in the United States, encompassing 801,163 acres. Driving through this geologic wonderland, we experienced stark elevation changes from flatland prairies to steep volcanic cliffs. The Chios Basin Campground is actually located in the center of an extinct volcano deep in the heart of the park. Hiking trails of all experience levels and distances branch outwards, making it the center of many park activities. For those that do not wish to camp in a tent or RV, the Chisos Mountains Lodge is a few short minutes away by car; but for those who enjoy the comfort of sleeping within a tent shell, endless fun with friends and family awaits.
B: Katherine and I were invited to camp at the Chisos Basin Campground with our great friends who drove nine hours from Corpus Christi, Texas. The campgrounds actually resembled an atmosphere of glamping to me when compared to the vast ruggedness of the West Texas countryside. Electricity, running water, green grass, and nice neighbors were just some of the amenities we found. Our friends even brought their Green Egg BBQ Grill, which gave us a fantastic dinner that night.
After our experience, Katherine and I thought about how fun this could be as a date for others. With hundreds of national, state, and city parks located across the United States boosting modern day essential necessities of not just water, electricity, and restaurants, but also of Wi-Fi-hotspots, campers can pick their dose of the great outdoors of their choosing. Having spent many nights camping outdoors in a tent in both freezing and scorching temperatures in national forests and desert lands, I welcome luxuries. Katherine and I chose this camping adventure as our date night post because it can be easily replicated in any part of the United States, leaving the mystique of the great outdoors to be shared with those that matter to you most.
K: I'm a little embarrassed to say that this was my first camping experience. In all honesty, it went much better than I expected! If you're looking to camp for your next date or adventure, I'd just recommend heavy blankets, socks, and a great sleeping bag like this one
here. I have no scary stories to report back, except for the possible sound of raccoons scurrying next to our tent at night.
K: My one requirement and necessity for camping are s'mores. I was adamant about packing all of the ingredients and we had such a great time roasting the marshmallows over a fire at night. I definitely enjoyed the sweet treat and I think our friends did too. What's your camping necessity?
