Brandon and I spent our honeymoon in Mexico City and the central hills of San Miguel de Allende. Our intention was to swap the normalities of a stereotypical honeymoon for a romanticized adventure. Unique hotels, fine dining, and a heavy dose of culture was the overall goal of the trip and we returned home to San Antonio feeling accomplished.
Ornate Catholic cathedrals, Mayan stone carvings, and Latin American influence dominated the birthplace of Mexico, leaving Brandon and I stunned with the vast cultural significance. Our boutique hotel was located in La Roma, a quaint and quiet neighborhood, gentrified by the modern young adults and city dwellers. We wandered the streets, explored markets and museums, ate the most amazing food, and sipped margaritas outside, all while embracing a newfound culture. After Mexico City, Brandon and I took a three hour car ride to the small historical town of San Miguel de Allende.
We could not get over the gorgeous flowers that seemed to be everywhere. Bouganvilla grew native to the area and Brandon and I stumbled upon a beautiful market that contained thousands of fresh flowers, fruits, and vegetables of all varieties. Additionally, the weather was beautiful every single day of our trip. Sun and a temperature in the low seventies made it perfect weather for walking the cobblestone streets.
The quaint community of San Miguel is home to countless local art galleries, boutiques, handmade pottery, fine dining, and beautiful hotels. We stayed at the Rosewood which was just a short walk from the main square. I consider San Miguel de Allende to be one of the most romantic cities I've ever visited. Overall, it was the perfect choice for our honeymoon spot.
